The Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech create “Buzz” after opening week

Article By: Austin Butler

What a way to kick off the 2024 college football season for not only Georgia Tech but the entire college football world.
Georgia Tech starts it’s well anticipated season off with a 24-21 win over No. 10 Florida State in Dublin.
Starting with the Georgia Tech defense, it’s hard not to notice how much better the Tech defense is and how it somewhat resembled the 90’s Jackets teams. New defensive coordinator Tyler Santucci has already made his mark within the program when it comes to being able to make plays when they are needed defensively.
Just to put it all into perspective, Florida State averaged 3.2 yards per carry and needed the game with only 98 rushing yards. A year ago, Georgia Tech allowed 220+ yards per game. I would say that’s a huge step towards a major improved defense.
As for the offense goes, it was a bit run heavy which couldn’t be stopped by the Florida State defense. Why lean on another option when you can win by one and that’s running the ball.
Georgia Tech’s offensive line was as good as it gets in the trenches which lead to the Tech running backs to be able to gash the Noles defense.
The passing game was effective with Georgia Tech QB Haynes King going for 11/16 and 200 total yards.
Total yards for the Jackets: 339 Jackets Passing yards: 149 Jackets Rushing yards: 190
Georgia Tech looks to improve to 2-0 next week when they take host to Georgia State in a night game at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta at 8pm.
